The other clubs from the association league, places 9–13 from the national leagues and all semi-finalists of the district cups take part in this.
One qualification round and five main rounds are played in the knockout system . The respective pairings are determined by lottery, whereby lower-class teams on the first match day and district teams always have home rights to cross-regional teams. The losing club is eliminated. If a game is tied at the end of regular playing time, there is an extension of 2 × 15 minutes. If there is still no decision after the extension, the lower class club moves on to the next round. For teams from the same division there is a penalty shootout . In the event of a tie in the final after extra time, it will always be decided by a penalty shoot-out. As a modification of the usual three substitutions, the game rules of the South Baden Football Association allow a total of five substitutions per team in cup games.
The winner of the competition qualifies for the first main round of the DFB Cup of the following season.
The finals will take place at changing, neutral venues.
