The VfB Buhl is a football club from Buhl . The first soccer team currently plays in the Landesliga Südbaden. The association has around 700 members.

history

On July 17, 1909, the "Association for physical exercise Bühl" was founded and Wilhelm Hepp was elected 1 chairman. After the Bühler predecessor clubs “Phoenix” and “Fidelitas” were unable to achieve any notable success in their short period, the VfB quickly established itself in the city. In 1912, the club won the district championship in the C-class (today district league B) and thus rose to the B-class. After the game was interrupted by the First World War, the club stabilized in soccer in southern Baden and in 1929 was promoted to what was then the third highest division, the Upper Rhine regional league. After the club was dissolved during the French occupation , it was re-established on June 15, 1945 under the name "Bühler Sportverein". In 1950, the club then made it to the 2nd amateur league (then the fourth division). Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to VfB Bühl.

In 1952/53 VfB was runner-up in the 2nd amateur league. Since the champions 1. SV Mörsch renounced the promotion round, Bühl played against FV St. Georgen for promotion to the 1. Amateur League South Baden and achieved this with a 2-0 win. In the following years they reached third place twice in the then third-highest division. In 1958, the club caused a national sensation when Ernst Willimowski was appointed as the new coach. He was replaced shortly afterwards by Lothar Bechtel , a former Karlsruher SC player . In 1959, VfB achieved its greatest club success by winning the South Baden Association Cup . They beat Offenburg FV 1-0 in the final . The goal scorer was Heinz Obrist.

From 1963 the club suffered sporting decline. So by 1968, three leagues, up to the B-Class, were relegated. Only in 1971 was it possible to move up to the A-class, and in 1977 to move up to the second amateur class, from which in 1978, however, was immediately relegated. In 1981, by advancing to the regional league, which was newly founded in 1978, the leap back into the fourth division. The 1980s were marked by the promotion battle in the district league (formerly A-class) and the relegation battle in the state league (formerly 2nd amateur league). It was not until 1999 that promotion to the regional league was achieved again. In 2004 he was promoted to the Association League South Baden . Here you could hold out until the 2012/13 season, but then rose as bottom of the table in the Landesliga Südbaden. In the 2014/15 season, the championship in the Landesliga Südbaden Season 1 and thus the promotion to the Association League Südbaden succeeded. After only one season, it went back down to the national league in 2016.
