Before the Second World War, the club merged twice: in 1910 with FC Phönix to form “Rastatter FV 04”, and on August 23, 1939 with FC Frankonia Rastatt, founded in 1912, to form “FC Rastatt 04”. After the end of the war, the club was dissolved and re-established in 1946 as "SV Fortuna Rastatt". On January 20, 1950, the old and present name "FC Rastatt 04" was reverted to.

The club has played its home games in the Münchfeldstadion since 1962, which can accommodate around 15,000 visitors. Before that, the games were played in the Schwalbenrain stadium.

The club celebrated its greatest successes in the 1930s and 40s, when the team temporarily played in the top divisions and in 1931/32 took part in the finals of the southern German championship and played against Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, 1860 Munich and other well-known clubs. In 1946 and 1948, the club was in the finals of the southwest German championship and was subject to 1. FC Saarbrücken and 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

The club had the next high phase at the beginning of the 1970s, when the club failed in the promotion games to the regional league at Waldhof-Mannheim and in 1978 made it to the top league Baden-Württemberg. The club belonged to the highest German amateur class at the time until 1986, before financial problems hit the club very hard. In 1996, FC Rastatt 04 was relegated to the national league, and in 2000 they were promoted again. In 2005, the club surprisingly had to relegate again from the association league and played in the national league, season 1. As runner-up in the 2006/07 season and the successful completion of the promotion games against FV Herbolzheim and FC Bad Dürrheim, FC Rastatt 04 is in the 2007/08 season returned to the association league. The first team was coached by Martin Jung, one of the former Karlsruher SC players. After three game days before the end of the season with victories over FC Denzlingen and VFR Hausen, they had secured relegation, FC Rastatt 04 was also able to belong to the top division in southern Baden in the 2008/09 season. In addition, a reserve team started in the district league B. In the 2009/10 season, the former player and youth coach of Karlsruher SC, Bernd Schmider, took over as coach from Martin Jung. In February 2010, the former professional soccer player Harald Heck ( San Diego Sockers ) signed for the 2010/11 season. In the 2014/15 season, however, another relegation could not be celebrated and FC Rastatt 04 rose from bottom of the table. Thus, the club started in the district league in the 2015/16 season, but had to be relegated to the district league A Baden-Baden North at the end of the season.
