Lukas Kwasniok (born June 12, 1981 in Gliwice , Poland ; Polish spelling Łukasz Kwasniok ) is a former German football player of Polish origin and today's coach who has been under contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken since January 1, 2020 as head coach.

Player career

Lukas Kwasniok moved with his family from Poland to Karlsruhe in 1988 and began playing football at Karlsruher SC , where he went through all youth teams up to U18. He also played 18 international U- matches for German junior teams and was captain of the U16 national team , whereupon he was considered a great talent and received offers from various clubs to change. He finished school a year before graduating from high school and, together with his brother, moved to the second division Arminia Bielefeld in 1999 , who were promoted to the Bundesliga shortly afterwards ; according to his own statement, the departure from Karlsruhe had been a mistake in retrospect.

In Bielefeld, he received a three-year contract and played for six months in the A-youth until he suffered ligament tears in both ankle joints and suffered protracted pain on the right while recovering. The pain only subsided after another operation by a doctor mediated by Stefan Kuntz . Because Kwasniok could only have played a Bundesliga game after two years in the club, due to the statutes, he was loaned to the fourth-class Oberliga club SV Sandhausen in the second half of 2000 , where he trained with the active players in addition to A youth games and was a league champion was, but was not used. After this station, Arminia terminated his contract two years early. As a 19-year-old, he then took a different path and completed training as a civil servant in the middle service . At the same time, he played football in his home region for the Baden association league club FC Rastatt 04 (2001-2005) and FC Germania Friedrichstal (2005-2007) before ending his playing career and becoming a coach.

Coaching career

From 2007 to 2008 Kwasniok was the head coach of the sixth division national division OSV Rastatt. He then took over this task at the seventh-class state division club TSV Reichenbach after a league reform, with whom he was promoted to the association league in 2012. Discovered by junior manager Edmund Becker , in 2014 he moved to the youth division of the second division club Karlsruher SC , where he initially coached the U17s and after a year and a half the U19s; the contract was valid until 2019. On December 4, 2016, KSC appointed Kwasniok as head coach of the second division team on an interim basis until the end of the calendar year. He then returned to the U19s and has been training to become a soccer teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy since June 2017 . In March 2018, Kwasniok successfully passed his coaching course and received the DFB's football instructor license . On July 30, 2018, the KSC ended its collaboration with Lukas Kwasniok. The parties agreed not to disclose the circumstances; Shortly before, Kwasniok's move to the second division club Erzgebirge Aue failed because of the Karlsruhe transfer request.

On December 9, 2018, FC Carl Zeiss Jena announced that Kwasniok would inherit Mark Zimmermann as head coach after a long period without a win. During the winter break, Kwasniok was also entrusted with the post of sports director after the previous manager, Kenny Verhoene , was relieved of his post as a result of the recent sporting failures. After the 10th matchday of the 2019/20 season , Kwasniok was released in Jena; the team had been in last place in the table without a win since the third matchday.

On January 1, 2020, Kwasniok signed a contract with the regional league club 1. FC Saarbrücken, which was valid until June 30 of the same year, as the successor to Dirk Lottner . The contract can be extended for a further year through promotion to the third division. In addition, he was able to qualify with the team as the first fourth division team for the DFB Cup semi-finals , which have yet to be played.
