Kenny Verhoene (born April 15, 1973 in Gent ) is a former Belgian football player and current coach and functional .

Career

As a player

Verhoene played as a player, among other things, at least 87 games in the Belgian first division, in which he scored at least twelve goals. In addition, the central defender was on the field at least once in the Belgian Cup and in the UI Cup . In 2006 he ended his active career with KSV Oudenaarde at the age of 33 .

As a trainer and functionary

From 2009 Verhoene gained his first experience as a coach of amateur teams. Until June 2015 he was active in his home country for KFC Sporting Sint-Gillis-Waas and in the Netherlands for HSV Hoek and VV Zaamslag.

He then found a job in Germany at FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Here the Belgian coached various youth teams of the club for a year until he was appointed sports director in summer 2016 . In addition, he took over the top division team Jenas for the first half of the 2018/19 season . From January 2019, Verhoene was responsible for the club's A-youth, which competed in the regional league.

At the end of February 2020, in addition to this job, he took over the post of head coach of the relegation-threatened third division team , as, unlike interim coach René Klingbeil, he has the necessary football instructor license. Klingbeil, on the other hand, was appointed team boss . On May 6, 2020, the Belgian was relieved of his position as coach of the club's A youth; he was accused of "terror, dictatorship and oppression". One day later, Tobias Werner succeeded him in the office of sports director . After the 32nd matchday the sporting descent of Jena was certain, a little later the club announced Dirk Kunert as the successor to the Belgian for the upcoming regional league season .
