The 2020/21 season of the Regionalliga Nordost is the ninth season of the regional football league as the fourth-highest division in Germany. It was opened on August 15, 2020, from December 21, 2020 to January 22, 2021, a winter break is to interrupt the season, the last game day was scheduled for the weekend of June 12 to 13, 2021.
Since no team had to relegate due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the preseason , 20 teams take part in the game. Provided that a hygiene concept specified by the association is implemented, small numbers of people are allowed in the spectator stands. However, the decisions of the respective state governments are also binding here; in Berlin , for example, only ghost games were permitted on the first match day .

Promotion and relegation regulation
Promotion to the 3rd division
The master is directly qualified for the 3rd league .
Relegation from the Regionalliga Nordost
The teams in places 18 to 20 will definitely be relegated to the NOFV Oberliga . Should there be at least one relegated team from the 3rd division, the team will also be relegated to 17th place, so that 18 teams will participate in the game again in the coming season. In the event of any "more relegated teams", the coming season will be contested with more teams.
