The Vogelgesang stadium is a football stadium in the Brandenburg town of Rathenow , Havelland district . The football club FSV Optik Rathenow , founded in 1991, plays its home games on the facility. After a renovation that lasted from 2006 to 2009, the stadium offers space for 5000 spectators.

history

The history of the Am Vogelgesang stadium began at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as a trotting track . The wooden grandstand typical of the time was designed for 400 spectators. The audience ranked for almost a century. In 1994, spectators of the visiting team rioted on the timber construction during a game of the Regionalliga Nordost between FSV Optik Rathenow and 1. FC Union Berlin . The damage was considerable and the responsible building authority initially closed the rank and had it demolished a few weeks later due to dilapidation . The only thing left was the social wing below the grandstand. This was also in poor condition and covered with mold . Since there was no alternative, it had to be used by the youth and men's teams of the FSV until 2006.

In February 2006, with the help of funds from “ZiS - Future in the District ”, a funding program in the state of Brandenburg, the renovation work on the “Volkssportpark Vogelgesang” was started. The main focus was on the construction of a new social wing, the creation of an artificial turf pitch and the fencing of the area. The planned construction of a new spectator tier had to be avoided for financial reasons. The project was able to be realized in the following year. The tier consists of two parts to the left and right of the new social building. Previously, the cinder track around the field was removed. After the main grandstand, the back straight was also renewed a year later and partially provided with a roof. In addition, a VIP and press room was built on the right-hand part of the main stand.

In 2017 the Vogelgesang stadium received a floodlight system . The costs amounted to 400,000  euros , of which 200,000 were taken over by the state of Brandenburg, 100,000 by the Havelland district and 50,000 euros each by the city and an economic stimulus package. The Northeast German Football Association made the lighting system a prerequisite for participation in the Northeast Football Regionalliga 2018/19 . The artificial light can also be used to broadcast evening games on television.

On May 25, 2019 Optik Rathenow and the third division relegated FC Energie Cottbus met in the final of the 2018/19 State Cup in the Rathenower Stadium. Optics lost to Energie with a goal from Streli Mamba just 0: 1.
