Westfalenliga

The 2020/21 season of the Oberliga Westfalen is to be the 39th season of the Oberliga Westfalen football league and the ninth after its reintroduction by the organizing Football and Athletics Association Westphalia (FLVW) as the fifth highest division in Germany. The opening is scheduled for September 6, 2020.

Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

On an extraordinary association day on June 9, 2020, a final decision was made to end the preseason . There were no relegated athletes, the final table was calculated based on the different number of games played using the quotient rule (points scored through games played). It was announced on June 26th who will no longer take part in games due to promotion to the higher regional regional league West and who will also move up from the lower Westphalian leagues. Thus, with the quotient and autumn master of season 1 and the quotient and autumn master of season 2, a total of three representatives rose. Before and after the season Wattenscheid 09 and TuS Haltern withdrew from the Regionalliga West.

Promotion and relegation regulation

As in previous years, the two best-placed teams eligible for promotion will be promoted to the Regionalliga West . The number of relegated members from the Oberliga Westfalen is 5, but this number can increase depending on the number of relegated members from the Regional League. With 3 or 4 relegated teams from the regional league, 6 or 7 teams from the upper league would have to be relegated.

From the subordinate Westphalian leagues , however, the two best-placed teams eligible for promotion will be promoted safely. If the target league of 18 teams is not achieved by the 2021/22 season , the two second-best teams eligible for promotion compete for a third promotion place.
