The 2015/16 season of the Oberliga Westfalen was the 34th season of the Football Oberliga Westfalen and the fourth after its reintroduction by the organizing Football and Athletics Association Westphalia (FLVW) as the fifth highest division in Germany. It was opened on August 14, 2015 with the game between SpVgg Erkenschwick and TSV Marl-Hüls .

Promotion and relegation regulation

  • Promotion to the Regionalliga West
The first and second placed were athletically qualified for promotion to the Regionalliga West .
  • Relegation from the Oberliga Westfalen
The two bottom of the table were relegated to the respective season of the Westphalia League . With three or four relegated from the Regionalliga West and the other superordinate leagues in the Oberliga, the three or four bottom of the table were relegated to the Westphalia League. With five or more relegated from the Regionalliga West and the other superordinate leagues in the Oberliga, the four bottom of the table rose to the Westphalia League. 1 Only SV Lippstadt 08, Sportfreunde Siegen and TSG Sprockhövel from the Oberliga Westfalen had applied for the 2016/17 regional league season.
2A prerequisite for promotion to the regional league was also the granting of the regional league license by the West German Football and Athletics Association . If one or more teams not eligible for promotion had completed the season on a promotion place, the promotion right was transferred to the following best-ranked clubs eligible for promotion; the clubs that moved up in this way had to finish the season in at least fourth place.
3In the qualifying game for the 1st round of the DFB-Pokal 2016/17, another participant of the Football and Athletics Association Westphalia was determined in the DFB-Pokal 2016/17. The best-placed club of the Oberliga Westfalen 2015/16 qualified to play in the DFB-Pokal and not already qualified for the DFB-Pokal through the Westfalenpokal. Opponent was the best-placed, but not already qualified for the DFB-Pokal via the Westphalia Cup, and the Westphalian club of the Regionalliga West 2015/16 eligible to participate in the DFB-Pokal . Second representatives of a higher-class team were not eligible to participate.
4thFor the Westfalenpokal 2016/17, clubs qualified in places 2 to 6. Second representatives were not eligible to play in the Westfalenpokal. The next best-placed clubs on positions 7 and / or 8 in the table were given the right to start the Westphalia Cup if Arminia Bielefeld II or SC Paderborn 07 II ended the season in positions 2 to 6.

Promotion game to the league

The runners-up of the two Westfalenliga seasons qualified for the promotion game to the Oberliga Westfalen . The game took place on June 2, 2016 in the Im Baumhof stadium in Sprockhövel . The season 2 runner-up, 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn from Siegen in South Westphalia , rose to the league for the first time after a 4-1 win over Delbrücker SC - season 1 runner-up.
