The 2015/16 season was the twelfth season of the 2. Bundesliga in women's football . The season began on August 29, 2015 and ended with the last game day on May 22, 2016. The relegation games against relegation were scheduled for May 22 and 29, 2016.
In the north, MSV Duisburg managed to gain direct promotion and was the first team in the history of the 2nd Bundesliga to win all 22 games. The champions of the southern group were the second team of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , which are not allowed to move up to the Bundesliga. Runner-up Borussia Mönchengladbach benefited from this as they were the first team to make it through from the regional to the Bundesliga.
The relegation places occupied Holstein Kiel and FFV Leipzig in the north, Alemannia Aachen and ETSV Würzburg in the south . Fifth relegated was initially Blau-Weiß Hohen Neuendorf , who were subject to SV 67 Weinberg in the relegation . Due to the voluntary withdrawal of 1. FC Lübars , Hohen Neuendorf remained second class.
