The Schönebürgstadion is a football stadium with an athletics facility and is located near the Volksfestplatz in the Baden-Württemberg city of Crailsheim . The Franconian Folk Festival takes place there every year . The site was built in 1976 at a price of 2.28 million marks. It was considered ultra-modern at the time. The opening game of the grass pitch of a Crailsheim city selection against the Stuttgarter Kickers in June 1977 ended 3: 4.
The stadium has space for around 5,000 spectators. In the stadium there is mainly standing room, only in the main grandstand there are a few hundred seats. For top games or special occasions, such as a folk festival, an additional stand is set up. In addition to the home games of the men's team from TSV Crailsheim in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg (in bad weather, these take place on the artificial turf next to the Schönebürg Stadium), the home games of the women's team in the second Bundesliga take place on the facility . The sports facility is also used for numerous other events. For example, the stadium will be the parade ground for the Crailsheim Citizens Guard on its anniversary, as in 2005. Various athletics competitions are also held here.
The Schönebürg Stadium was renovated between June and October 2008. It was u. a. a grandstand with 1,000 seats was built, a new lawn laid on the field and the athletics facility renewed.
