The first women's team of SV Meppen is a women's soccer team from Meppen that will play in the Bundesliga from the 2020/21 season .

On July 1, 2011, the women's football department of SV Victoria Gersten joined the club, which played second class for a long time.

history

SV Victoria Barley

The SV Victoria Gersten was founded in the 1947th The first women's team made it to the second-class Oberliga Nord in 1993 . In 2000 the team was runner-up and took part in the promotion round to the Bundesliga . There, however, the team only achieved one point win by beating Hamburger SV 1: 1 .

After another runner-up, the championship title was brought to Emsland for the first time in 2002 . Also in the following round of promotion failed the team that could only win the meaningless last game against 1. FC Nürnberg . After another runner-up - Hamburger SV once again gave a brief guest appearance in the regional league - the second regional league championship was won unbeaten in the 2003/04 season. However, the promotion round was waived.

In 2004 the Gerstener were one of the founding members of the 2nd Bundesliga North. Despite modest financial possibilities, the team was always able to achieve placements in the midfield. In the 2008/09 season Martina Fennen and Kerstin Straka from Tennis Borussia Berlin were the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga North. The Victoria achieved the greatest success in the 2009/10 season , when it was third in the northern group behind Herford SV and the second team from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .

SV Meppen

In order to be able to cope with the steadily growing demands in the 2nd Bundesliga, the women's football department joined SV Meppen for the 2010/11 season. A planned syndicate was discarded because the DFB does not allow syndicates in the 2nd Bundesliga. The first team will play in Meppen, all other teams will stay in Gersten . After two years in secure midfield, the team played for the championship for a long time in the 2012/13 season and remained unbeaten for 13 games in a row. For financial reasons, however, the club waived a Bundesliga license. In the 2017/18 season, the Meppen team qualified for the now single-track 2nd Bundesliga, where in the 2018/19 season the possible promotion to the Bundesliga was missed by just one point.

In the 2019/20 season, which was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, fourth place was enough for promotion, as two higher-placed second teams were not eligible for promotion.
