Eintracht Frankfurt is a sports club from Frankfurt am Main, founded on March 8, 1899. Since 2004, women's soccer has also beenofferedin the soccer department . The team only played regional football up to the regional league until 2020. Through a merger with 1. FFC Frankfurt and the associated takeover of game rights, you are currently playing in the Bundesliga . The "old" first team then continued to play as Eintracht III in the Regionalliga Süd.

history

Founded from 2004 to 2020

The Eintracht women's team began playing in the sixth-class district league Frankfurt (Group 2). The team was founded by the then department head Stefan Winterling and the trainer Tamara Varga. The first competitive women's football game in the history of Eintracht took place on September 11, 2004. The Eintracht women played 1-1 at SG Mönstadt. A week later, a clear 11-0 win against TGM / SV Jügesheim II followed in the first home game at Riederwald . At the end of the season, the Eintracht women took second place behind the Jügesheim women and, like them, were promoted to the Frankfurt regional league.

In the regional league, the eagle-bearers immediately took third place. In the following season, the team took third place, so that the hoped-for promotion to the association league did not succeed. In 2007/08 it was enough for second place behind FC Rommelhausen, who had the better goal difference and the participation in the relegation round. With six points from three games (8: 3 goals), the team secured promotion.

After three attempts were necessary for the promotion to the association league, the jump to the Hessenliga succeeded immediately. With over 100 goals, the SGE managed to march straight through. In addition, the team took part in the Hessen Cup for the first time after winning the regional cup (6-0 in the final against FC Rommelhausen). There, however, there was a 4-6 defeat on penalties in the first round against the regional division and former second division team TSV Jahn Calden , who finally won the cup competition. In the first Hessenliga season, the team held the class without any problems and finished in a good fifth place. Once again, by winning the regional cup, they qualified for the Hessen Cup. There you reached the semi-finals, where again against the eventual winner Calden was the last stop (3: 5).

In the following season, the Eintrachtler established themselves in 6th place. At the cup level, it went as in the previous season: victory in the regional cup, reaching the semi-finals in the Hessen Cup, defeat against Calden (0: 1), which again won the Hessen Cup. For the 2011/12 season, promotion to the regional league was the declared goal. On the last day of the match, thanks to the better goal difference, the Riederwald women secured promotion ahead of the tied team from Opel Rüsselsheim . In addition, the final of the Hessen Cup was reached for the first time, in which the eagle bearers were defeated 0: 1 by RSV Roßdorf.

The team finished the first regional league season in 10th place, which is usually the first relegation place. However, since there was no relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga South to the Regionalliga Süd, this placement was enough to keep the league. With a 2-1 win against Eintracht Wetzlar , the Eagle Bearers were able to win the Hessen Cup for the first time and thus qualify for the DFB Cup .

For the 2013/14 season , the former national player Tina Wunderlich and Patrizia Barucha, two long-time Bundesliga players who had recently only played in the 2nd Bundesliga, were signed up. Michelle Baumann, Kristina Brenner and Melanie Kantor have also played sporadically in the Bundesliga in the past . The team took 3rd place in the table after the first half of the season, but fell back in the second half of the season, so that the season ended in 7th place in the table. In the finals of the Hessen Cup, the Eagle Bearers lost 1: 3 to the team from Calden.

At the end of the 2014/15 season , the team finished 10th in the table. Since there was again no relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga South , the Riederwalderinnen secured themselves with this placement in the regional league.

The 2015/16 season ended the Eagle Bearers in 12th and last place in the table and had to relegate to the Hessen League. On the third to last matchday of the 2016/17 season, the team made the direct return to the table. In the 2017/18 season , the SGE players managed to qualify for the promotion round for the new single-track 2nd Bundesliga ahead of schedule . The promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga has been the big goal for years. The promotion round ended the team in third and thus penultimate place in Group 1 and thus missed promotion. In 2019, the Hessenpokal was won for the second time after a 3-2 win in the final against Jahn Calden .

Merger with 1. FFC Frankfurt

For the 2020/21 season, the club merged with 1. FFC Frankfurt on July 1, 2020 , the first and second teams of the 1. FFC were integrated into Eintracht's Fußball AG and have since competed under the name Eintracht Frankfurt. Both teams play their home games, as before, in the Brentanobad stadium . On June 16 of that year, representatives of both clubs signed the merger agreement. It is still planned to take over the playing rights of the three other teams of the FFC and Eintracht and thus register up to five women's teams in the five highest leagues for the 2020/21 season. On June 28, 2020, 1. FFC played their last game under the old name and lost 2-0 to SC Freiburg . On September 6, 2020, the Eintracht Frankfurt women's team played their first Bundesliga game and defeated newly promoted Werder Bremen at Deutsche Bank Park 5-1.

More teams

2nd team 2004-2020

With the promotion to the association league, a second team was introduced. This rose immediately from the district league to the group league. In 2013 the team was promoted to the Association League, followed by promotion to the Hessen League in 2014. At the end of the 2015/16 season, the team was relegated due to the relegation of the first team despite the sporting relegation and has since played in the association league again. After three years the team was runner-up behind Kickers Offenbach and prevailed against TuS Naunheim in the promotion round . The 2019/20 season was canceled prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Stadion

In the seasons 2004/05 to 2011/12 and 2015/16 to 2017/18, the home games were played on the artificial turf at the Riederwaldstadion . In the 2018/19 season, the Nieder-Eschbach sports complex will be used as the home arena, which was already switched to in the 2012/13 to 2014/15 seasons due to capacity reasons. With the merger of Eintracht with 1. FFC Frankfurt, the first and second teams will play their home games from the 2020/21 season in the stadium at Brentanobad ( Frankfurt-Rödelheim ), the previous venue of 1. FFC.

Girls soccer

Girls' soccer has also been offered since the 2006/07 season. The B-Juniors (U17) qualified for the newly introduced Bundesliga in the summer of 2012 . The team was relegated to the Hessen League after one season and then immediately promoted again. In the 2018/19 season, relegation was achieved in the Bundesliga for the first time by reaching seventh place.

Eintracht Frankfurt organizes the “Girls' Eagle Day” every year for talent spotting.
