The BV Cloppenburg (officially Ballspielverein Cloppenburg eV from 1919 ) is a football club from Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony . The association was founded on March 23, 1919. The home venue is the M&P Baudesign Arena with 5001 seats. The women's football department has existed since 2008.

history

The women's football department of BV Cloppenburg has its roots in SV Höltinghausen , a club from the municipality of Emstek . In 2007, the first team was promoted to the Regionalliga Nord , where the Höltinghausen women immediately became runner-up behind Mellendorfer TV . This success brought problems for SV Höltinghausen, as promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga is not possible for financial and infrastructural reasons.

Thereupon the department joined BV Cloppenburg in 2008 and took over the playing rights in the Regionalliga Nord. In the 2008/09 season, the BVC delivered an exciting title race with the promoted Werder Bremen , which the Bremen women were able to win with a point ahead. A year later, the Cloppenburg women finally made it to the second division.

After a botched start, Tanja Schulte took over the coaching position in October 2010 and led BVC to stay in the league. A year later , the team was significantly strengthened with the financial support of the local delicatessen retailer Albert Sprehe and finally landed in third place. Agnieszka Winczo was the top scorer with 24 goals this season . The first team rose to the Bundesliga early on the penultimate match day of the 2012/13 season .

After only one season, the direct relegation followed as the table penultimate. Nevertheless, trainer Tanja Schulte remains the trainer of the BVC women, who were runner-up behind MSV Duisburg in 2016 . Two years later, the Cloppenburg women qualified for the now single-track 2nd Bundesliga. There the team was only able to keep the class in the 2018/19 season due to the better goal difference compared to FSV Hessen Wetzlar and SV 67 Weinheim .
