Women's soccer

history

The women's football division was established in July 1980 and took part in the game two years later. After just two years, he was promoted to the Association League South Baden, at that time the top division. After three district cup victories and two district championships in the hall, the women became champions of the association league for the first time in 1992. However, they failed in the promotion round. In 1996 they repeatedly won the championship and were also successful in the promotion round to the Bundesliga group south, in which they immediately reached sixth place. Since the Bundesliga became single-track, the women's team had to go into a relegation, in which they again could not prevail.

The SC Sand was included in the newly created Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. When they first took part in the DFB Cup , they reached the round of 16 straight away. A 1: 4 defeat at VfL Sindelfingen meant saying goodbye to the competition. When the South German Football Association set up a regional league in 2000, SC Sand was there. After the runner-up in 2002, the championship could be won in 2003. In the promotion round, however, they failed at Hamburger SV and 1. FC Saarbrücken . In 2004 the 2nd Bundesliga was founded and SC Sand occupied midfield in this. After the 2010/11 season , the Sanderinnen had to relegate as the penultimate.

After the direct re-promotion, the SC became a big surprise team in the 2012/13 season and finished third at the end of the season. Up until the penultimate matchday, it was still possible to march through to the Bundesliga. SC Sand also caused a sensation in the DFB Cup and was only eliminated in the quarter-finals with 0: 1 against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam . SC Sand was the only team able to defeat champions TSG Hoffenheim in both games. Otherwise, Hoffenheim did not lose to any other team. On December 15, 2013, the club moved into the semi-finals of the DFB Cup 2013/14 for the first time after a 2-0 win over FF USV Jena . On May 11, 2014, after 17 years of abstinence, the club rose to the Bundesliga for the second time in the club's history. There you reached the league as tenth place. On April 3, 2016, the club moved into the final of the DFB Cup 2015/16 after a 2-1 victory over the eventual German champions FC Bayern Munich and thus celebrated the greatest success in the club's history. There they lost on May 21, 2016 in Cologne against VfL Wolfsburg with 1: 2.

In July 2016 the Englishman Colin Bell took over the coaching position from Alexander Fischinger . His contract ran until 2019. He left the club in February 2017 and became the coach of the Irish national women's football team . Richard Dura, born in Poland, became his successor on March 1, 2017. On April 21, 2017, Dura announced that they would be retiring at the end of the 2016/17 season. With the start of the 2017/18 season, Sand then appointed Sascha Glass as coach. He switched to league competitor 1.FC Köln in December 2019 , whereupon Sven Thoss became his successor. On July 10, 2020, the association announced the separation from Thoß.

Men's soccer

In men's football, in contrast to the women's division, SC Sand could not celebrate any higher-class successes. The championships and promotions of the men's teams took place in the local district classes. Most recently, the first men's team became champions of the District League Offenburg B (Season 1) in the 2016/2017 season, which means promotion to the ninth-class District League Offenburg A (North). The second men's team currently plays in the 10th class district league Offenburg C (season 2).
