The FF USV Jena (full name: Frauenfußball Universitätssportverein Jena e.V. ) is a women's soccer club from Jena . The club split off in 2003 from the largest sports club in Thuringia , the USV Jena . The first team played in the Bundesliga from 2008 to 2018 and in the 2019/20 season . In 2010 the FF USV reached the DFB Cup final.
history
In 1991 USV Jena became the last East German women's soccer champion and was promoted to the Bundesliga. But there you had no chance and immediately dismounted. Only after the turn of the millennium did it go up again. In 2003 they became champions of the Regionalliga Nordost. However, they failed in the promotion round. The decisive game was lost at home against Hamburger SV . A year later they qualified for the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga. There they were divided into the southern group and immediately took third place. In the following season you could confirm the third place.
In 2004 they founded their own club and outsourced the soccer players. The USV became the FF USV (FF for women's football)
After the runner-up in 2007, he returned to the House of Lords a year later as champions.
The club celebrated its greatest success after the championship title in 1991 when it participated in the 2010 DFB Cup final . In front of more than 26,000 spectators in Cologne , the clearly favored FCR 2001 Duisburg , who played with six German national players, was only just 0: 1. After the season head coach Heidi Vater resigned. Her successor was Thorsten Zaunmüller , who, however, was on leave after just a few months in the 2010/11 season due to continued unsuccessfulness. As a result, the team was initially taken over on an interim basis by goalkeeping coach Daniel Kraus and the assistant coach Michael Zahn , who had only recently been engaged . Since neither Kraus nor Zahn had the required coaching license, the former GDR national player Konrad Weise took over the coaching post at the USV in early 2011. Kraus and Zahn became his assistants.
Team squad for the 2017/18 season
Since the DFB only tolerated this constellation until the end of the season and required a full-time coach with an A license for the new season, the former national player Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was hired as a coach for the 2011/12 season . After Voss-Tecklenburg used an exit clause in the contract during the season to become the Swiss national coach, the previous assistant coach Daniel Kraus was appointed as the new coach in February 2012 and the former soccer referee Anja Kunick took over the management.
In July 2012, the club was awarded the Green Ribbon by the German Olympic Sports Confederation for its youth work. On July 17, 2012, the entire board of directors, including CEO and President Ralf Schmidt-Röh , resigned from his office. On August 20, 2012, the actor and director of the Jena cabaret Arnd Vogel was elected as the new president and chairman of the board. On November 9, 2013, the club signed a cooperation agreement with FFC Gera , which allows Jena reserve and perspective players to exchange free of charge. The FF USV wants to give the young players a lack of match practice and slowly introduce them to the Bundesliga team. Kai-Uwe Hirsch has been the managing director of the women's football department since January 2014. At the end of the 2013/14 season , the USV took fifth place behind the top teams from Wolfsburg , Frankfurt , Potsdam and Munich and thus achieved the best season record in the history of the Bundesliga.
Since the summer of 2014, the FF USV Jena has been cooperating in the junior division of FC Carl Zeiss Jena and the junior performance center of the Johann Christoph Friedrich GutsMuths Sportgymnasium Jena . In addition, coach Daniel Kraus was appointed to the board of directors of FC Carl Zeiss Jena, which was thinking about integrating the women's football club into FC Carl Zeiss Jena. On December 7, 2014, the club was named Team of the Year for the City of Jena in front of the male basketball players from Science City Jena . On March 16, 2015, Falk Buchmann was elected as the new president at the general meeting and Jens Roß took over the office of managing director. On May 4, 2015, they borrowed € 200,000 from the Belgian businessman Roland Duchâtelet and agreed to work together in the club's youth division. The season ended in the secured midfield in eighth place. After parting with assistant coach Katja Greulich in May 2015, the previous head coach of 1. FC Union Berlin , Steffen Beck, took over as assistant coach at USV Jena in June . After Daniel Kraus announced his change as head coach to SG Essen Schönebeck in March 2016 , the FF USV signed Christian Franz-Pohlmann as the new head coach for the 2016/2017 season. However, at the beginning of November 2016, Franz-Pohlmann was separated again and Steffen Beck took over the head coach - Items on an interim basis. In mid-November 2016, the former assistant trainer from Jena, Katja Greulich, was introduced as the new trainer who previously worked at Malmö FF in Sweden .
After ten years of membership in the top German league, FF USV Jena finished the 2017/18 season in last place in the table and was relegated from the Bundesliga. The contract with coach Katja Greulich was not extended after relegation. Instead, Steffen Beck was promoted to head coach of the first team that played in the single-track 2nd Bundesliga in the 2018/2019 season.
At the end of 2018, they ran into financial hardship. According to the press, a third of the season budget of 300,000 euros was missing. Fans started a collection campaign to end the current season. If the recovery were missed, bankruptcy is inevitable. In this case, consideration would be given to transferring the right to play to another club. At the end of the 2018/19 season, the desired promotion was achieved despite a 4th place in the table because the first two, the second representatives of Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg, were not eligible for promotion. Shortly after the promotion, it was announced that Christopher Heck would take over the team as coach with the start of the 2019/20 women's Bundesliga season . He succeeded Steffen Beck, who took over the U-20 of VfL Wolfsburg .
On May 26, 2020, the club announced that it would hand over the playing rights for all teams to FC Carl Zeiss Jena on July 1 , and only exist as an empty shell.
