The FFC Gera (officially: Frauen Fußball Club Gera eV ) is a women's football club from Gera . The first team qualified once for the DFB Cup .

history

As BSG Modedruck Gera , the former GDR played second class behind the top teams from Potsdam , Dresden, Schlema , Rostock , Jena and Karl-Marx-Stadt . In the absence of a separate division in Thuringia, the team made a guest appearance in the Sachsenliga in the 1989/90 season and made it to the league as a season winner. After upgrading and renaming the division to Regionalliga Nordost , the division was always held until relegation in 2000. The Gera women initially competed as TSV Gera-Zwötzen and from 2003 as 1. FC Gera 03 . The greatest success during this time was fourth place in 1992. After several years in the Thuringia regional league, the team managed to return to the Northeast Regional League in 2006. In 2008 Gera won the Thuringia Cup and qualified for the DFB Cup. There they lost in the first round against the neighboring Bundesliga promoted FF USV Jena .

By the penultimate place in the 2009/10 season, the team had to relegate again to the association league. Since many players after relegation left the club, was with the women's team of BSG Wismut Gera the syndicate SG Gera formed. This occurred in the 2010/11 season in the Association League Thuringia. SG Gera played its home games in the first half of the season at the Karl-Harnisch Sports Center and in the second half of the season at the Am Steg stadium . On April 29, 2011 the players of the SG Gera founded the FFC Gera , which became Thuringian champions in 2012 in its first season. However, a possible promotion to the regional league was waived. In 2015, the team reached the final of the Thuringia Cup and met the second team of FF USV Jena. Since the Jena women were not eligible to participate, the FFC Gera qualified for the DFB Cup 2015/16 . After a 0:12 home defeat against the second division FSV Gütersloh 2009 , the FFC Gera was eliminated in the first round.
