The Magdeburg FFC is a women's football club from Magdeburg . The club was founded in 1997 and played in the 2nd Bundesliga North from 2009 to 2015 .
history
The roots of the Magdeburg FFC lie with SG Handwerk Magdeburg. In the only official GDR championship in the 1990/91 season, the team took last place. In 1991, the entire women's football department joined SV Fortuna Magdeburg . In terms of sport, the team showed fluctuations in the following years. After a few years in midfield, the team fought relegation in the late 1990s . In 1997 the women's football department went into business for itself and founded its own club, FSV Fortuna Magdeburg / Wolmirstedt. In order to express its independence in the club name, the club changed its name to Magdeburg FFC on July 1, 2003 .
In 2004, the FFC narrowly missed the qualification for the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga . With three points behind the newly promoted VfB Leipzig , Magdeburg was sixth. Things went better in the same season in the DFB Cup : With a 3-0 win at Hertha Zehlendorf, the club reached the round of 16 for the first time , where they were eliminated after a 6-0 defeat against FFC Heike Rheine . The Magdeburg team has taken part in the DFB Cup ten times.
In the three seasons from 2004 to 2007, the FFC was runner-up in the Regionalliga Nordost. In the 2006/07 season, the club fought for the championship with 1. FC Union Berlin and SV Blau-Weiß Hohen Neuendorf. However, the Magdeburg FFC had not applied for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga and could therefore not advance in the case of the championship, which they then did not reach anyway. The promotion to the second Bundesliga was made up in 2009 by the championship. In the second round match in the DFB Cup on October 14, 2009 against SG Essen-Schönebeck (1: 4), the FFC, whose home is usually the Heinrich-Germer-Stadion, played in front of 500 spectators for the first time in the 27,000-seat Magdeburg MDCC -Arena . In 2015, he was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga.
The second team plays in the Saxony-Anhalt Union League. In addition, the club has three girls' teams (B, C and D juniors) in play.
