Almuth "Alma" Schult (born February 9, 1991 in Dannenberg (Elbe) ) is a German soccer goalkeeper . She has been under contract with VfL Wolfsburg since 2013 .
Career
Almuth Schult grew up in Lomitz and started playing football at the age of five in her home region, Wendland , at FC SG Gartow. In 2007 she moved to Hamburger SV . In 2008 she moved to Stendal for personal reasons and from then on played for the regional league club Magdeburg FFC . Schult was able to gain a regular place there and in 2009 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga North with the club . In 2010 she passed her high school diploma and in January 2011, along with 258 amateur football players in Saxony-Anhalt, she was the only woman with a contract.
In summer 2011 she moved to the women's Bundesliga club SC 07 Bad Neuenahr . Due to the insolvency of the club, she canceled her contract that ran until 2014 in mid-April 2013 and moved to VfL Wolfsburg at the end of May 2013 .
Her greatest successes in the national dress to date include the title with the German U-20 national team at the U-20 World Cup in Germany in 2010 and third place at the U-17 World Cup in New Zealand in 2008 . Almuth Schult also played with the U-19 team in the 2010 European Championship tournament in Macedonia , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals against France after extra time and penalty shoot-outs.
Almuth Schult was part of the squad for the 2011 World Cup , but was not used. On February 15, 2012, she played her first international match in the senior national team due to the injury of goalkeeper Nadine Angerer in the 5-0 victory in the European Championship qualification against the selection of Turkey . She is the first DFB goalkeeper to appear in a competitive game for the first time. She was also used in the following three games at the Algarve Cup and remained clean, setting the record for Nadine Angerer, who was the first goalkeeper to remain clean in her first four games. Only in the final, won 4: 3 against world champions Japan , she had to accept the first goals.
On May 24, 2015 she was appointed to the final squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada by national coach Silvia Neid .
In the single-track women's soccer Bundesliga (since 1997/98), Schult holds the record for most minutes of play without conceding a goal. Between October 4, 2014 and March 15, 2015, she stayed 1,051 minutes in the women's Bundesliga without conceding a goal. Both on the 6th matchday and on the 17th matchday she was overcome by Genoveva Añonma from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam .
In September 2015 she was appointed by Silvia Neid as Nadine Angerer's successor as national goalkeeper. At the 2016 Summer Olympics , she won the gold medal as a goalkeeper. For this she was awarded the silver bay leaf on November 1, 2016 .
At the 2017 European Championships in the Netherlands, Schult and her team were eliminated in the quarter-finals against Denmark. Schult was in goal in each of the four games.
In 2019, she and her club VfL Wolfsburg won the double with championship and DFB Cup . For the 2019 World Cup , she was set as the goalkeeper and played all five games until she was eliminated against Sweden in the quarter-finals.
Personal
Schult studies at the German Sport University Cologne . After she missed the test matches against Italy and Spain in November 2018, she worked as a co-commentator for the sports show on November 10, alongside Bernd Schmelzer . In spring 2020, Schult became the mother of twins.
