Erich Peter Klement (born May 14, 1949 in Gmunden , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian scientist. He is Professor of Mathematics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz .

Life

Erich Peter Klement completed his mathematics studies at the University of Innsbruck in 1971. During his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Mathematics at the JKU, and then as an assistant (1971–1993) after completing his doctorate . In 1981 he completed his habilitation in mathematics, from 1993 he was an associate professor and since 1998 he has been a university professor.

Longer research stays took him to the University of California, Berkeley (1979), the Université Aix-Marseille II (1981, 1988) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology (1987). He also taught as a visiting professor at the University of Education in Klagenfurt (1982) and as a visiting professor at the University of Cincinnati (1983) and at the Università degli Studi di Trento (1993).

As an Austrian pioneer in the field of fuzzy logic , he founded the Fuzzy Logic Laboratorium Linz- Hagenberg in 1991 . From 1998 to 2003 he was chairman of the JKU Senate and from 2009 to 2013 dean of the JKU's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He was also a member of the Austrian University Council (2007 to 2012), the Upper Austrian Council for Research and Technology (2003 to 2013) and the University Council of the Private Pedagogical University of the Diocese of Linz (2006 to 2011). He is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Upper Austrian think tank ACADEMIA SUPERIOR - Society for Future Research .

He is a member of the Catholic student associations KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck (since 1968) and KaV Austro-Danubia Linz (since 1971) in the ÖCV
