Canterbury United is a New Zealand football club based in Christchurch .
The club was founded in 2001 and plays in the first division that was founded at the same time, the New Zealand Football Championship .
In the 2005/2006 season the club celebrated its greatest success so far, when it reached the final of the championship. There they were only defeated by Auckland on penalties .
United plays its home games at English Park in front of an average of 335 spectators.
For the start of the new championship season in mid-November 2020, Southern United and Tasman United joined Canterbury United.
