The Wellington Phoenix FC is an association founded in 2007 New Zealand football club from the city of Wellington . The home games of the A-League team are played in the Westpac Stadium . In the 2007/08 season they took part for the first time in the A-League, as the successor to the New Zealand Knights team . That season, 20 points were scored, which put them in last place. Since there are no relegated teams in the A-League, the league membership was not in question. In the second season in the A-League, the team was sixth. In 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015 the championship play-offs were reached.
The Phoenix fan base is known as "Yellow Fever". In the first season, an average of 11,683 spectators attended the games.
