The Central Coast Mariners FC (also briefly The Mariners or The Coast ) is a professional football club from Gosford , Australia . The club currently plays in the A-League , as one of four teams from New South Wales . The club was re-established in 2004 at the start of the A-League and is the first team from the Central Coast to take part in a national competition.
In the first 2005/06 season, the Mariners surprisingly reached the Grand Final of the A-League, but lost to Sydney FC . In the 2006/07 season it was only enough for sixth place. In 2007/08 the Mariners made it back to the Grand Final, but this time they lost 1-0 to the Jets from neighboring Newcastle . In the 2012/13 season, the club reached the Grand Final again and won the Australian Championship for the first time with a 2-0 win against Western Sydney Wanderers .
The Mariners play at Central Coast Stadium , currently trading under the commercial name Bluetongue Stadium . The stadium has a capacity of 20,119 spectators. The record attendance at a game of the Mariners is 19,238 spectators against the Newcastle United Jets in round 19 of the 2007/08 season.
The stadium is open on the narrow south side and allows views of a bay.
