history

2008/09 - foundation and first season

For the 2008/09 season, the Australian Football Association founded the professional women's football league , the W-League . In the same year, the Central Coast Mariners FC decided to set up a women's team in addition to its professional men's team playing in the A-League . The team was one of the eight founding members of the new league. The Australian Stephen Roche was hired as coach. At the end of its first season, the team only reached sixth place in the table and thus did not move into the W-League play-offs .

2009 - Second and final season

After the disappointing result of the previous season, the women's team was able to achieve second place in the table at the end of this season. This was the first time that the Central Coast Mariners Women entered the play-offs. In the semifinals, the team met the Brisbane Roar Women . At home in Central Coast Stadium, the Central Coast Mariners lost to the Brisbane Roars 0-1.

Despite the very successful season, the club announced in 2010 that it would no longer have a women's team in the coming 2010/11 season. The reason given was a lack of funding. With that, the Central Coast Mariners Women left the W-League and stopped playing.

In the following two seasons, the W-League consisted of only seven teams, until the 2012/13 season the Western Sydney Wanderers Women joined the league.
