Connor Thomas Pain (born November 11, 1993 in Hong Kong ) is an Australian football player .

Club career

Pain, whose grandfather Tommy Casey took part in the 1958 World Cup with Northern Ireland and won the FA Cup with Newcastle United , grew up in Hong Kong until he was eight . The family then moved to Melbourne, Australia . There he played in the youth field with Beaumaris and North Caufield. His first steps in the adult sector made Pain from 2010 at the lower class Melbourne club Malvern City , before he played in the 2012 season for the Bentleigh Greens in the Victorian Premier League .

For the 2012/13 season he was committed to the junior team of the professional club Melbourne Victory and won the championship of the National Youth League with the team . The left winger made his debut in the professional team, which Pain watched regularly in his youth, on February 2, 2013 in the city derby against Melbourne Heart . Coach Ange Postecoglou also relied on the young player and a month after his debut, Pain signed his first professional contract.

National team

Pain's development at Melbourne Victory also attracted interest from the Australian Association. Pain was invited to a training camp for the first time by U-20 national coach Paul Okon in May 2013 with a view to the U-20 World Cup and, shortly after his international debut, made it into the World Cup squad in a friendly against the youngsters of the Netherlands . At the finals in Turkey, Pain was used in all three group games, but Australia failed with only one point gain as bottom of the table in the preliminary round.

In July 2013, Pain was appointed to a training camp for the Australian national team by national coach Holger Osieck and was finally nominated for the 2013 East Asian Championship . After he was not used in the first game, he returned temporarily to Australia before the second group game to play a friendly against Liverpool with Victory . In the last tournament game against China (final score 3: 4) Pain made his debut on July 28, 2013 as a substitute for the Australian national team.
