Ross McCormack (born August 18, 1986 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish football player .

Player career

Glasgow Rangers (2003 to 2006)

McCormack made his debut on May 1, 2004 at the age of 17 in the second half of the Scottish Premier League 2003/04 against FC Motherwell for the Glasgow Rangers . In the 2004/05 season, the Rangers secured the title in the Scottish Premier League , McCormack was only used in one league game. In the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League , he played his first European game against FC Porto and scored the 1-1 goal seven minutes after being substituted on.

From January 17 to May 7, 2006 he played on loan for the English third division club Doncaster Rovers and scored five goals in 19 league games.

Motherwell FC (2006 to 2008)

On July 11, 2006 McCormack moved to Scottish league rivals FC Motherwell and signed a two-year contract. Due to injury, he only played twelve league games in the 2006/07 season and scored two goals. In the following season things went much better for him as well as for the club and he finished the season with Motherwell in third place in the table after 36 games and 8 goals.

Cardiff City (2008 to 2010)

After this success in Scotland he signed a contract with the Welsh club Cardiff City on June 28, 2008 . He scored 21 league goals in his first season in the second-rate English Football League Championship in 2008/09, finishing second on the list of goalscorers behind Sylvan Ebanks-Blake of the Wolverhampton Wanderers . Cardiff missed the play-off ranks as seventh by one place and thus missed promotion. The next season he scored four goals in 34 league games. Cardiff reached the first play-off round after a fourth place and moved into the final after a success over Leicester City . This game, however, the team lost 3-2 to Blackpool FC and missed promotion to the Premier League .

Leeds United (2010 to 2014)

After he had lost his regular place in the attack of Cardiff at the beginning of the season, he moved to the second division promoted Leeds United on August 27, 2010 and signed a three-year contract. Again impaired by injuries, he played only 21 games in the Football League Championship 2010/11 and scored two goals. Leeds finished the season in seventh place and missed the play-off entry.

Fulham FC (2014 to 2016)

For the 2014/15 season McCormack signed a contract with English second division club Fulham. In 89 league games he scored 38 goals.

Aston Villa (since 2016)

In August 2016 he was signed by Aston Villa for four years . In early February 2017, his club loaned him to league rivals Nottingham Forest for the rest of the 2016/17 EFL Championship .

Scottish national team (since 2008)

After eleven games in the Scottish U-21s, McCormack made his debut on May 30, 2008 in a 3-1 defeat in the Czech Republic for Scotland. His first goal was on April 1, 2009 in a 2-1 home win over Iceland.
