AFC Champions League 2011

The AFC Champions League 2012 is the 31st edition of the highest continental competition in Asia, which is being held for the ninth time under its current name. The winner of the competition will qualify for the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup .

Eligible Countries

In contrast to the UEFA Champions League , for example , only certain countries and associations that meet the AFC criteria are eligible to participate .

The AFC determined the eligibility criteria at the end of 2010 for the following two years. On November 30, 2009, the AFC announced that in addition to the ten participating associations, twelve members were interested in participating in the AFC Champions League, after which Singapore withdrew its application. Group stage

In the group stage, 32 teams played in eight groups, each with four teams in league mode (first and second leg). The teams were divided according to geographical aspects. In Groups A to D, the teams from Western and played Central Asia , in groups E to G were the teams from East and Southeast Asia to. The first two of the group qualified for the final round of the last 16. The tournament was played with the three-point rule .

Final round

The quarter-finals have been drawn, but two teams from the same country could not meet directly. The teams played the tournament winner in the knockout system with a return game, whereby the away goals rule applied. If there is no winner in the second leg and / or final after regular playing time and overtime, the winner will be determined in a penalty shoot-out .

The tournament winner qualified for the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan .
