Status: end of career

Darío Leonardo Conca (born May 11, 1983 in General Pacheco , Tigre , Prov. Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a former Argentine football player .

career

Darío Conca began playing football at the local CA Tigre in the northern periphery of Buenos Aires, with whom he made his debut in the second-rate Primera B Nacional league in 2000 as a 15-year-old . In the same year he moved to the top club CA River Plate , where he had to wait until November 2003 for his debut in the first division . In the long run, however, he was unable to assert himself and was awarded to the capital club CD Universidad Católica in Chile from 2004 to 2006 , with which he won the Clausura Championship in 2005. In 2006 River Plate first loaned him to the Argentine first division club Rosario Central , for whom he played 14 games.

A successful time in Brazil began for him in January 2007, when he was awarded CR Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro . With Vasco he only reached midfield positions at state and state championships. Only one year later, local rivals Fluminense FC became his fourth loan station. As the cup winner last year, Fluminense qualified for the Copa Libertadores 2008 . In the knock-out phase, Fluminense eliminated the former titleholders Atlético Nacional from Medellin in Colombia, São Paulo FC and ultimately in the semifinals the Boca Juniors after a 2-2 win in Buenos Aires and a 3-1 home win, to which he contributed a hit. At the end of June, Fluminense lost the final first leg in the Ecuadorian capital Quito against LDU 2: 4, after Conca was able to equalize to 1: 1. They managed to catch up in the second leg at Maracanã and after 90 minutes it was 3-1. Since away goals are not weighted more heavily in Libertadores finals , there was a penalty shoot-out , which LDU won 3-1. Conca missed the first penalty. In the following Brazilian championship, Fluminense had to wait until the tenth match day for the first win. At the end of the season, the club was only one point above a relegation rank.

At the beginning of the 2009 season, Darío Conca became the property of Fluminense and he signed up until the end of 2011. In the championship of 2009, the picture was similar to that of the previous year: In the end, only one point secured the remaining in the Series A . Internationally, the advance into the final of the Copa Sudamericana was another respectable success. The opponent was again called LDU; the team convinced again at the home game in Quito and clearly won 5-1. In the second leg Fluminense started an energetic comeback, but the 3-0 final was not enough this time for a penalty shootout. For Conca, however, there was the first major personal success: In the election for the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão held jointly by the Brazilian Association and the television station Rede Globo , he landed first among the fans - even though Fluminense is not one of the big, popular clubs of the country counts.

After an average state championship in 2010, there was the seventh change of coach since Conca joined the club. This time, with Muricy Ramalho, a very successful coach was hired , who has already led São Paulo FC to three championships and one victory in the Copa Conmebol . Fluminense played at the front of the championship right from the start and the title race remained open until the last match day. At home, a 1-0 win against the already relegated Guarani FC was enough at Engenhão after the last remaining title rival Corinthians with ex-superstar Ronaldo only achieved a 1-1 at Goiás EC, who were also relegated . After a 26-year hiatus, this was the third Brazilian championship in the club's history.

Conca himself was the most successful template provider of the Série A in 2010 and was showered with personal honors after the end of the season. The shy Conca received the traditional Bola de Ouro award from the trade magazine Placar as the best player according to the average ratings of the season and at the award ceremony of the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão, this time he not only received the fan choice award, but also the main award.

In July 2011 Darío Conca moved to the Chinese first division team Guangzhou Evergrande for three and a half years . His salary there is said to be $ 10.4 million a year, which makes him one of the highest paid players in the world. In his first season at the club, he scored nine goals in 15 games and won the first Chinese national championship in the club's history with Evergrande. In the following season the title was defended.

In January 2017, Shanghai SIPG loaned Darío Conca to Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . On his return, he was without a club for almost a year and then joined Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship in December 2018 . But just four months later he ended his active career there.
