The 1971 Asian Champion Club Tournament was the fourth season of the most important Asian competition for club teams in football . It took place from March 21 to April 2, 1971 in Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . The national champions from eight Asian countries were invited. The game was played first in a group stage and then in the knockout system .
The eight participants initially played in a placement round for group membership. A group was made up of two winners and two losers. The two group best from each group qualified for the semifinals. The group winner from one group met the runner-up from the other group. The two losers played for third place. The championship was decided in one game.
