David P. Holloway

David Pierson Holloway (born December 7, 1809 in Waynesville , Warren County , Ohio , † September 9, 1883 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1813, David Holloway came to Cincinnati with his parents , where he attended public schools. Then he completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. He worked for the Cincinnati Gazette for four years. In 1823 Holloway moved to Richmond , Indiana. There he acquired the newspaper "Richmond Palladium" in 1832, whose publisher and editor he remained until his death.

At the same time he began a political career. He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1843 and 1844 ; between 1844 and 1850 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1849 he was appointed Examiner of Land Offices . In the congressional elections of 1854 , Holloway was elected as a candidate for the short-lived Opposition Party in the fifth constituency of Indiana in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Samuel W. Parker on March 4, 1855 . Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . These were determined by the events leading up to the civil war . During his tenure as a congressman, Holloway chaired the Agriculture Committee.

Between 1861 and 1865, David Holloway was the patent agent. He then worked as a patent attorney in the federal capital Washington until his death on September 9, 1883.
