David M. McIntosh

David Martin McIntosh (born June 8, 1958 in Oakland , California ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2001 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Following his father's death, David McIntosh moved to Kendallville , Indiana, his mother's hometown, at the age of five . He studied at Yale University until 1980 , where he was one of the co-founders of the Federalist Society . After studying law at the University of Chicago , he was admitted to the bar in 1983. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . He worked for the US Department of Justice during the Ronald Reagan presidency . He was also a member of the President's Internal Affairs Advisory Board. He then worked for Vice President Dan Quayle .

In the 1994 congressional election , McIntosh was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the Indiana Second Constituency , where he succeeded Philip R. Sharp on January 3, 1995 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2001 . In 2000, he renounced another congressional candidacy. Instead, he ran for the post of governor of Indiana, but was defeated by the Democratic incumbent Frank O'Bannon with 42:57 percent of the vote.

Since 2001, he has been a partner in the Washington-based law firm Mayer Brown . In 2004 he rejected an initially planned renewed candidacy for governor and announced in July 2011 that he would try to return to the US House of Representatives in the 2012 congressional elections . After incumbent Dan Burton resigned , McIntosh met Susan Brooks in the primary of his party , to whom he narrowly defeated.
