John H. Foster

John Hopkins Foster (born January 31, 1862 in Evansville , Indiana , †  September 5, 1917 there ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1909 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Foster attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1882 at Indiana University in Bloomington . After a subsequent law degree at Columbian University , now George Washington University , and his admission to the bar in 1885, he began to work in this profession in Evansville. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1893 he was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives. Between 1896 and 1905 he was a Superior Court judge in Vanderburgh County .

After the resignation of MP James A. Hemenway , Foster was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the due by-election for the first Indiana seat , where he took up his new mandate on May 16, 1905. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1909 . In 1908 he was not reconfirmed. After leaving the US House of Representatives, Foster practiced again as a lawyer in Evansville. He died there on September 5, 1917.
