Gregory "Greg" Joseph Pence (born November 14, 1956 in Columbus , Indiana , United States ) is an American businessman and politician . As a member of the Republican Party , he has held the sixth seat of the state of Indiana in the United States House of Representatives since January 3, 2019 . He was elected to this office on November 6, 2018 and was sworn in on January 3, 2019.

Life

Greg Pence was born on November 14, 1956 in Columbus , Indiana . He is the oldest of six children born to his parents, Ed and Nancy. His brother, three years his junior, is incumbent Vice President of the United States , Mike Pence . According to his mother, he and his siblings worked for Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater in 1964 .

In 1975 Pence graduated from Columbus North High School and received a Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago . There he obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1985 .

From 1979 he was a member of the United States Marine Corps , where he served five and a half years as a first lieutenant . On October 29, 2019, he voted as one of 11 members of the House of Representatives against the resolution classifying the murder and deportation of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

He has four children with his wife Denise: Nicole, Lauren, Emily and John. You have five grandchildren.

Professional career

Pence owns and operates antique shops in southern Indiana.

After retiring from the United States Marine Corps, Pence joined the Kiel Brothers Oil Company in 1988 after the death of his father and was its director from 1998 to 2004. The company then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy .

Political career

Greg Pence won the Republican primary election for the sixth seat of the state of Indiana in the United States House of Representatives with 64.5 percent of the vote against Jonathan Lamb, who got 23.6 percent.

He won the election for the sixth seat of the state of Indiana in the United States House of Representatives on November 6, 2018 against Jeannine Lake of the Democratic Party with 63.8 percent of the vote. Third place went to Tom Ferkinhoff from the Libertarian Party with 3.3 percent of the vote.
