John L. Robinson

John Larne Robinson (born May 3, 1813 in Maysville , Kentucky , †  March 21, 1860 in Rushville , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1853 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Robinson attended public schools in his home country. He later moved to Rush County , Indiana, where he worked in commerce in Milroy . Between 1841 and 1845 he was employed as a county clerk in the county administration. Politically, Robinson joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1846 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Thomas Smith on March 4, 1847 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1853 . These were initially shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War . From 1849 Robinson was chairman of the Road and Canal Committee.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Robinson was US Marshal for the southern part of Indiana state. He held this office from 1853 until his death. He was also an inspector in the Indiana Fourth Military District. From 1856 to 1859, Robinson also served as the curator of Indiana University in Bloomington . He died on March 21, 1860 in Rushville, where he was also buried.
