Thomas Jefferson Wood

Thomas Jefferson Wood (born September 30, 1844 in Athens County , Ohio , †  October 13, 1908 in Crown Point , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1853, Thomas Wood came with his parents to Vigo County , Indiana, where he attended public schools. He then taught himself as a teacher for two years. After a subsequent law degree in Terre Haute and at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission to the bar in 1867, he began to work in Crown Point in this profession. Between 1872 and 1876 he was a prosecutor in Lake County .

Politically, Wood was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1878 and 1882 he was a member of the Indiana Senate . In the congressional election of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of his state , where he succeeded Mark L. De Motte on March 4, 1883 . Since he was not confirmed in 1884, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Thomas Wood returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on October 13, 1908 in Crown Point, where he was also buried.
