John V. Beamer, 1957

John Valentine Beamer (born November 17, 1896 in Wabash County , Indiana , †  September 8, 1964 in Anderson , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1959 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Beamer attended the public schools in Roann and then until 1918 Wabash College in Crawfordsville . During the final phase of the First World War he was a soldier in an artillery unit . Between 1919 and 1921 Beamer worked for the Wabash- based company Service Motor Truck Co .; from 1921 to 1928 he was a representative of a school book manufacturer in New York City and Chicago . He then became Vice President and Manager of Baking Powder & Chemical Co. He held this post between 1928 and 1941. At the same time he held the same position at Union Rock Wool Corp. between 1935 and 1942 . active. He also ran a farm in Wabash.

Politically, Beamer was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1949 and 1950 . In the 1950 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded John R. Walsh on January 3, 1951 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four terms in Congress by January 3, 1959 . These were shaped by the events of the Cold War and the Korean War and the civil rights movement .

In 1958, John Beamer was not re-elected. In 1960 and 1961 he was a member of the National Selective Service Appeal Board . After that, he retired. He died in Anderson on September 8, 1964.
