Wabash County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Wabash .

The county is located in north-central Indiana and has an area of 1,091 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Kosciusko County , Whitley County , Huntington County , Grant County , Miami County, and Fulton County .

history

Wabash County was formed on February 2, 1832 from parts of Cass County and Grant County. It was named after the Wabash River .

According to the 2000 census , Wabash County had 34,960 people in 13,215 households and 9,395 families. The population density was 33 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.38 percent white, 0.41 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.41 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.39 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.18 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 13,215 households, 31.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 59.0 percent were married couples living together, 8.5 percent were single mothers, and 28.9 percent were non-families. 24.9 percent were single households and 10.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.97 people.
