Whitley County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Columbia City .

The county is located in northeast Indiana and has an area of ​​875 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Noble County , Allen County , Huntington County , Wabash County, and Kosciusko Counties .

history

Whitley County was formed on February 7, 1835 from parts of Allen County and Elkhart County. It was named after William Whitley , a colonel in the American Revolutionary War .

According to the 2000 census , Whitley County had 30,707 people in 11,711 households and 8,607 families. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer.
