Floyd County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is New Albany .

The county is located in southern Indiana, borders Kentucky to the southwest, and covers an area of ​​384 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Clark County , Jefferson County, Kentucky, Harrison County, and Washington County .

history

Floyd County was formed on January 2, 1819 from parts of Clark County and Harrison County. It was named after John Floyd a Colonel from Kentucky .

According to the 2000 census , Floyd County had 70,823 people in 27,511 households and 19,697 families. The population density was 185 inhabitants per square kilometer.
