The county is located in southern Indiana, bordering Kentucky, and has an area of ​​800 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Orange County , Washington County , Harrison County , Meade County, Kentucky, Perry County, and Dubois County .

history

Crawford County was formed on January 29, 1818 from parts of Harrison County, Orange County and Perry County. It was named after William Harris Crawford, a US politician, war and finance minister.

Two structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 31, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Crawford County had 10,743 people in 4,181 households and 3,056 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer.
