Crawford County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is English .

The county is located in southern Indiana, bordering Kentucky, and has an area of 800 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Orange County , Washington County , Harrison County , Meade County, Kentucky, Perry County, and Dubois County .
history
Crawford County was formed on January 29, 1818 from parts of Harrison County, Orange County and Perry County. It was named after William Harris Crawford, a US politician, war and finance minister.
Two structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 31, 2017).

Demographic data
As of the 2000 census , Crawford County had 10,743 people in 4,181 households and 3,056 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.27 percent white, 0.16 percent African American, 0.38 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.15 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.30 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.61 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.93 percent of the population.
Of the 4,181 households, 32.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers, and 26.9 percent were non-families. 22.5 percent were single households and 9.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
25.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 25.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,646 , and the median income for a family is $ 37,869. Males had a median income of $ 30,649 versus $ 21,128 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,926. 11.1 percent of families and 16.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
