The first seat of the county government was Bowling Green with the first district court built in 1928. With the construction of the National Road (now US 40) and various railway lines, the city of Brazil became the first point of accessibility and in 1876 the seat of the county administration was relocated. The old district court building burned down and a new one was built in Brazil. The next was built in 1914 and is still in operation today.
