Tippecanoe County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Lafayette .

The county is located in mid-northwest Indiana, about 60 km to the west from Illinois and has an area of 1,303 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: White County , Carroll County , Clinton County , Montgomery County , Fountain County , Warren County, and Benton County .
history
Tippecanoe County was formed on January 20, 1826 from parts of Parke County and Free Territory. It was named after the Battle of Tippecanoe , which took place in 1811.
Tippecanoe County has a National Historic Landmark , the Tippecanoe Battlefield . A total of 44 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 4, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Tippecanoe County had 148,955 people in 55,226 households and 32,417 families. The population density was 115 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.86 percent white, 2.52 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 4.46 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.48 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.37 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.26 percent of the population.
Of the 55,226 households, 28.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 46.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.3 percent were single mothers, and 41.3 percent were non-families. 28.0 percent were single households and 7.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01.
20.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 25.4 percent between 18 and 24, 27.1 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 17.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 9.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 105.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 105.1 men.
The median income for a household in the 38,652 USD , and the median income for a family 51,791 USD. Males had a median income of $ 37,606 versus $ 25,142 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,375. 7.3 percent of families and 15.4 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
