Henry County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is New Castle .

The county is located in east Indiana, about 50 km from Ohio and has an area of 1,023 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Delaware County , Randolph County , Wayne County , Fayette County , Rush County , Hancock County, and Madison County .
history
Henry County was formed as the original Free Territory County on December 31, 1821. It was named after Patrick Henry , a US politician and governor of Virginia .

According to the 2000 census , Henry County had 48,508 people in 19,486 households and 13,971 families. The population density was 48 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.96 percent white, 0.86 percent African American, 0.15 percent Native American, 0.20 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.28 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.54 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80 percent of the population.
Of the 19,486 households, 30.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 58.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers, and 28.3 percent were non-families. 24.8 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.91 people.
24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 and 24, 27.8 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 24.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 90.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 38,150 USD , and the median income for a family 45,470 USD. Males had a median income of $ 36,439 versus $ 22,432 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,355. 6.0 percent of families and 7.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
