Marion County is a county in the US state of Indiana in the United States . The main town Indianapolis takes up most of the area of the county.
history
Marion County was founded in 1822 and is named after Francis Marion , a general from the American Revolutionary War .
Most of the places in the county have now been incorporated into the city of Indianapolis. Own places are still today: Speedway , Southport , Beech Grove and Lawrence .
Historical objects
- The historic Ralph Waldo Emerson Indianapolis Public School # 58 is located in Indianapolis . The school building is located on North Linwood Street at number 321 and was listed on December 6, 2004 as a Historic Monument with the number 04001309 on the National Register of Historic Places .
- The historic Anderson Thompson House is located at 6551 Shelbyville Road in Indianapolis .
- The Locke Field Gardens can be found at Indiana Avenue (NRHP ID 83000133).

According to the 2000 census , Marion County's population was 860,454; 352,164 households and 213,411 families were registered. The racial the population was composed of 70.49 percent white, 24.17 percent African American, 0.25 Native American, 1.43 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.98 percent from other ethnic groups ; 1.64 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.87 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
