Orange County is a county in the US state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Paoli .

The county is located in southern Indiana, about 60 km from Kentucky and has an area of ​​1,057 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Lawrence County , Washington County , Crawford County , Dubois County, and Martin County .

history

Orange County was formed on December 26, 1815 from parts of Gibson County, Knox County and Washington County. It was named after the county of the same name in North Carolina .

Orange County has a National Historic Landmark , the West Baden Springs Hotel . A total of 15 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 3, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Orange County had 19,306 people in 7,621 households and 5,342 families. The population density was 18.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.90 percent white, 0.63 percent African American, 0.31 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.25 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.56 percent of the population.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 94.7 men.
