Randolph County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Winchester .

The county is located in east Indiana, borders Ohio, and has an area of 1,174 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. In Indiana, it is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Jay County , Wayne County , Henry County, and Delaware Counties .
history
Randolph County was formed on January 10, 1818 from parts of Wayne County. It was named after Randolph County in North Carolina , where most of the early settlers came from.

According to the 2000 census , Randolph County had 27,401 people in 10,937 households and 7,798 families. The population density was 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.06 percent white, 0.26 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.59 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.73 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,937 households, 31.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 58.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.7 percent were single mothers, and 28.7 percent were non-families. 25.0 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.95.
25.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 and 24, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 92.8 men.
The median income for a household in the 34,544 USD , and the median income for a family 40,855 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,951 versus $ 20,634 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,954. 8.3 percent of families and 11.1 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
