Adams County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Decatur .

Adams County was formed on March 1, 1836. It was named after John Quincy Adams , the sixth President of the United States . The district court building, which is still in use today, was built in 1872–73.
Eight structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).
About 18.5% of the population in Adams County are Bern-German speaking Amish who have settled in the county since 1840 and are the largest "Swiss German" group of Amish in the county: around 8,600 people live in 58 parishes.
