Clinton County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Frankfort .

The county is located northeast of the geographic center of Indiana and covers an area of 1050 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Carroll County , Howard County , Tipton County , Hamilton County , Boone County , Montgomery County, and Tippecanoe Counties .
history
Clinton County was formed on January 29, 1830 from parts of Tippecanoe County. It was named after DeWitt Clinton , an early US politician and governor of New York state .

As of the 2000 census , Clinton County had 33,866 people in 12,545 households and 9,057 families. The population density was 32 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.38 percent white, 0.30 percent African American, 0.14 percent Native American, 0.21 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 4.18 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.77 percent were descended from two or more races. 7.32 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,545 households, 35.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 58.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers, and 27.8 percent were non-families. 23.6 percent were single households and 11.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
27.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.8 percent between 18 and 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44 years. 21.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 93.4 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 40,759 , and the median income for a family is $ 48,864. Males had a median income of $ 36,385 versus $ 24,378 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,862. 6.3 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
