Clark County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Jeffersonville .

The county is located in southern Indiana, borders Kentucky to the southwest and has an area of 974 square kilometers, of which three square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Scott County , Jefferson County , Floyd County, and Washington Counties .
history
Clark County was formed on February 3, 1801 from parts of Knox County. It was named after George Rogers Clark , a US general.

As of the 2000 census , Clark County had 96,472 people in 38,751 households and 26,544 families. The population density was 99 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.30 percent white, 6.63 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 0.59 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.79 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.40 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.86 percent of the population.
Of the 38,751 households, 31.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 52.1 percent were married couples living together, 12.5 percent were single mothers, and 31.5 percent were non-families. 26.3 percent were single households and 9.3 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.95.
24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0 percent between 18 and 24, 30.6 percent between 25 and 44 years old. 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.7 men.
The median income for a household in the 40,111 USD , and the median income for a family 47,412 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,197 versus $ 24,033 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,936. 6.0 percent of families and 8.1 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
