Grant County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Marion .

The county is located in northeast Indiana and has an area of 1074 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Huntington County , Wells County , Blackford County , Delaware County , Madison County , Tipton County , Howard County , Miami County, and Wabash County .
history
Grant County was formed on February 10, 1813 from parts of Cass County, Delaware County and Madison County. It was named after Henry Grant , a politician and US senator .
In Grant County there is a National Historic Landmark , the Marie Webster House . A total of 18 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 1, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Grant County had 73,403 people in 28,319 households and 19,568 families. The population density was 68 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.23 percent white, 7.19 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.56 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.02 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.53 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.43 percent of the population.
Of the 28,319 households, 29.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them in the household. 53.7 percent were married couples living together, 11.5 percent were single mothers, and 30.9 percent were non-families. 26.7 percent were single households and 11.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
23.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 11.8 percent between 18 and 24, 25.8 percent between 25 and 44 years. 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 88.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,162 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,304. Males had a median income of $ 33,767 versus $ 23,801 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,003. 8.4 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
